The Odyssey Storytelling Podcast

Oct 11, 2019

Here at the Odyssey Storytelling Podcast, we love all our stories equally. For the most part. At the risk of breaking that objectivity, though...this is a really, really good one, y'all. Possibly one of our favorites. In April 2016, Kadon Izaac Sellers opened up the Contradictions show with a story that's both heartfelt and hilarious, both tragic and beautiful. It's about clothing, and gender, and the military, but mostly about the experience of being a trans person in America. From Kadon's Odyssey bio:

I was born and raised in Nebraska in the 90s by a policeman and a real estate agent. Two days after my 19th birthday, I followed my grandfathers’ footsteps and went to basic military training. I’ve been stationed in Italy, Wyoming, Texas, and Arizona. My first career in the military was security forces, where I accomplished one of my greatest achievements and made it onto a specialized tactical team. I am now an intelligence analyst transferring from active duty into the reserves.

This episode was performed and recorded in front of a live audience at The Screening Room in Tucson, AZ, on April 7th, 2016, and was curated by Sarah K. Smith. For more information about Odyssey Storytelling, please visit
