In times like these, it's important to remember stories about people who have fought and won against injustice (spoiler alert: they're usually women). In this story, originally told at the "Labor" show in January 2017, Lorena Parra Howard recalls her struggle to form a labor union to protect herself and her co-workers -- one of whom coincidentally, also had a baby in the process! From Lorena's Odyssey bio:
Lorena Parra Howard is a long time Xicana activist, union and political organizer fighting for social justice in Tucson and in the Motherland.
This episode was performed and recorded in front of a live audience at The Screening Room in Tucson, AZ, on January 5th, 2017, and was curated by Jen Nowicki Clark. For more information about Odyssey Storytelling, please visit www.odysseystorytelling.com
